We are thrilled to share that, thanks to the support of a local investor, our community has acquired The Green Man pub site to facilitate the community rebuild of our much loved pub. This landmark achievement is just the beginning; we are currently refining our vision and will soon invite you to join this incredible journey through various involvement opportunities. The first Community Meeting held in Hodsoll Street and Ridley Village Hall by the steering group.
Friday 9th October 2026. What a wonderful turnout for our first community meeting! It was great to see so much support for bringing our much-loved pub back to life.
We shared architect Steve Baker’s proposed plans, explained the importance of pledges, and discussed how community shares, voting and our privacy statement will work.
But we need more than your money – we need your help too! We are looking for volunteers to join our Ground Force, Funding and Marketing groups.
We would also love to hear your memories of the Green Man over the years.
We’ll be sending regular bulletins to keep everyone updated as the project progresses.
Thank you for your continued support. Together, we can bring the Green Man back to life!

Announcing the news!
8th July 2026. Almost 5 years to the day the site officially became the community's. The journey was not easy, our first bid wasn't successful and it was bought by a developer who planned to rebuild the pub but pulled out and it went back on the market. Our second bid was put forward as the preferred bid by the agents to the owners Stonegate, and with the help of a local philanthropist we won the bid.
The Fire
On 17thJune 2021, lightning struck the chimney and destroyed our pub. We secured an Asset of Community Value to ensure only a pub would be rebuilt.

Why we use your information: We rely on legitimate interests to record and administer your pledge and assess potential support for rebuilding the Green Man.
Access is restricted to authorised administrators and the service providers operating the form and storage. Funding reports will normally use totals without identifying supporters.
Retention: We review pledge forms every year. We delete or anonymise them within 1 month after a pledge is withdrawn, the pledge campaign closes or the project is abandoned, unless a specific legal requirement justifies longer retention. Any donation or investment subsequently made is covered by a separate retention policy.
